30-year-old man was apprehended for allegedly molesting a woman and injuring another in Navi Mumbai.
Acting on a complaint by the woman allegedly molested by the Thar SUV driver, Kharghar police registered an FIR under BNS section 74 for the offence of assault or criminal force against a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty. The detained aaccused identified as Ali alias Talib Ahsan Nakhvi, a resident of sector 50, Seawoods, Nerul was handed over to Kharghar police for further legal action. Previously, in January 2021, he was arrested by Nerul police in the FIR registered against him for alleged kidnapping, sexual harassment and molestation of a woman. Audumbar Patil, senior inspector of crime branch unit-3 said, “After an FIR for molestation was registered at Kharghar police station by the victim woman, a resident of sector 34, Kharghar. As the accused had used a duplicate registration number plate, we scrutinized as many as 62 Thar SUVs registered with various Regional Transport Offices (RTOs).
Sanjay Joshi, senior inspector of Kharghar said, “The accused Nakhvi has been detained and subsequently it will be decided whether to arrest him or serve with a notice under Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) for cooperating in police investigating. As per the orders of higher authority, our team started a parallel probe. From the CCTV camera surveillance near the crime scene, we obtained the red Thar SUV’s registration number, which was of Vashi RTO passing. “When verified, the registration number was found to be that of a Maruti WagonR car. Subsequently, we obtained the registration number of a red Thar SUV that was registered with Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar RTO,” Patil added.
