Vince McMahon made his official World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF) television broadcasting debut 51 years ago, replacing Ray Morgan as the promotion’s lead play-by-play commentator. McMahon had started working in wrestling as a ring announcer in 1969. By October 1971, he had moved into the lead television commentary role. He had graduated from East Carolina University with a business degree in 1968 and wanted to build a career in his father’s wrestling business. His first wrestling role came in 1969, when he worked as a ring announcer for the WWWF’s All-Star Wrestling. In 1971, he was sent to promote wrestling cards in a small territory in Maine. The biggest change came in 1982. McMahon eventually acquired WCW in 2001, while the company also later acquired assets from Extreme Championship Wrestling.
