NAVI MUMBAI: In a road rage incident in Nerul after an argument between the drivers of an Ola cab and a Swift car as the latter claimed that the Ola cab driver had dangerously cut his way while overtaking on the internal road in Nerul on August 15 night, the Swift car driver assaulted the cab driver by punching on his nose and hitting on the head with a bamboo stick causing him severe injuries. As the cab driver bled profusely and attempted to stop the car driver from getting away till the cops arrived, by lying on the car’s bonnet, the car driver drove with the cab driver on the bonnet for about 2 kms. The incident occured on the stretch in sector 20 near Nerul pond on August 15 around 9.35pm. Ajay Kamble, senior inspector of Nerul said, “As per the complaint by the injured cab driver identified as Pradeepkumar Pandey, 27, a resident of Naigaon (E), an FIR was registered at Nerul police station against the unidentified accused car driver, who is absconding. As per the FIR, on August 15 at 8.18pm, the complainant Pandey had picked up two women passengers from Andheri and dropped them at Seawoods Grand Central mall in Nerul at around 9.30pm. Around 9.35pm, when he reached near Nerul pond in sector 20, suddenly a Swift car driver was repeatedly honking.

” “We have invoked relevant BNS sections for the offences of voluntarily causing hurt/ grievous hurt using dangerous weapons or means, voluntarily causing simple hurt, rash or negligent driving on a public way in a manner that endangers human life or is likely to cause hurt or injury to any person and causing simple hurt to any person through a rash or negligent act that endangers human life or personal safety,” inspector Kamble added. As the complainant tried to convince him and told not to give bad words, the car driver went to his vehicle and taking out a bamboo stick, hit on his head causing severe bleeding. The cab driver while recording the incident on his mobile in one hand and firmly holding the bonnet by other hand, shouted for help from passing motorists, while dangling dangerously and requesting the car driver to stop by yelling that he could fall and get killed. As the car slowed down after some distance, the cab driver jumped off the bonnet after which the car driver sped away leaving the cab driver injured on the road. From the Swift car’s registration number provided by the complainant, the accused driver was identified as Lalit Arjun Patil, a resident of Juinagar. Thereafter, he headed towards Sarsole to attend birthday party of his cousin Nitin Pandey’s brother-in-law Rahul Chaubey. Hence, he changed the lane and gave him way to go ahead. But, the car driver waylaid him and alighting from his car claimed that he had dangerously cut his way while overtaking and punched on his nose, while hurling expletives. As the assailant sat in his car, the complainant tried to stop him, but he started his car. Hence, the complainant lied on the car’s bonnet to prevent him from escaping till the cops arrived. The assailant drove with the complainant on the bonnet for about 2kms, reluctant to stop the car. After some distance, as the car slowed down, he jumped off the bonnet and the assailant sped away. The complainant returned to his cab and called his cousin Dipanshu Pandey, who took him to NMMC’s Meenatai Thackeray hospital, Nerul. The doctors gave him first aid and for further treatment referred him to NMMC hospital in Vashi, where he was administered sutures to head injury, followed by CT scan.
