As decorated horses, dhol troupes and people dressed as Maratha warriors led the way, the Kolhapur royal family arrived in a vintage 1932 Maybach during the city’s centuries-old Shahi Dasara procession on Tuesday evening, drawing thousands to the streets for a grand celebration of tradition and heritage.
At the ceremonial venue, the police band welcomed the royal family with the anthem of the erstwhile Kolhapur State. Elected representatives, senior officials and members of prominent Sardar families associated with the former princely state joined the celebrations in traditional attire.
