Mumbai: Motorists will no longer have to replace the FASTag pasted on their vehicles every time they want to change the bank that issued it. Centre on Friday launched ‘OneTag’, a portability facility that will allow users to shift to another issuer bank while retaining the existing physical tag.
Importantly, after successful portability, the existing Tag ID and vehicle registration number will remain unchanged, the ministry said. At present, a motorist wanting to change the FASTag issuer has to close the existing tag and undergo fresh onboarding, including obtaining a new physical tag. With OneTag, the user can retain the tag already affixed to the vehicle and switch the issuer.
