Citizens had earlier objected to the hacking of hundreds of trees on the University Road stretch to be widened
The civic administration had earlier announced its plan to widen the route to 45m.
Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials said that the widening of the first section from University Chowk to RBI building has been finished, and the focus is now on completion of widening the remaining stretch from RBI building to Sancheti Hospital Chowk. Regular users of the stretch also said that while travel time has reduced on the finished stretch, a point near the Agriculture College still witnesses slow vehicular movement, particularly during rush hours. Also, various works are still pending closer to the varsity campus, hampering overall traffic movement,” he said.
PMC has claimed daily commutes will get faster on the wider route. “A turn on the main road towards Model Colony and Chittaranjan Vatika has been shut. This forces commuters to travel till Agriculture College to take a U-turn and then go to Model Colony.
Pune: As Metro works on University Road reach their last stages, PMC stated that it has also expedited road-widening efforts from University Chowk to Sancheti Hospital Chowk under the viaduct, claiming that it will bring relief to commuters.
