Kottayam: CPM state secretary M V Govindan said he would oppose any attempt to club Hindutva with Sree Narayana Guru’s name. He was inaugurating the Mararikulam martyrs’ remembrance as part of the Punnapra–Vayalar anniversary observance on Monday.

Govindan said Guru’s name and philosophical positions run counter to Hindutva, yet some are trying to attach his ideas to it. He said if anyone, while remaining within Yogam, tries to distort Guru’s philosophical vision, it will be called out critically, and communist movements have the right to do so. He said that if attempts are made to link the Guru’s name with ‘Sanatana Dharma’, Sree Narayana followers have a duty to resist it. He said former governor Rajendra Arlekar was someone who tried to push Sangh Parivar ideas into Kerala’s higher-education sector, and alleged that the fact that V D Satheesan and higher education minister Roji M John did not oppose it was part of a BJP deal.

He also indirectly criticised SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan. He noted that some people claim he and P Jayarajan are spreading a false version of history, but insisted what he is stating is the real history.

He added that renaissance movements and those who stand by the SNDP Yogam’s earlier stance would not accept this.
