Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar accused the BJP-led govt of undermining democracy and fomenting unrest by polarising people along Hindu-Muslim lines.

He said govt’s priorities were misplaced and it is high time, projects like Shaktipeeth were scrapped and funds be transferred for giving relief to farmers. Those who never feared the British will not be intimidated by this system,” he said. Wadettiwar said protests by opposition leaders and citizens demonstrated that Rahul Gandhi continued to enjoy strong public support. “If protests by leaders of the country’s major opposition parties are met with lathicharges, one can only imagine the plight of ordinary citizens,” he said.

He alleged that the govt’s handling of protests by opposition leaders, including those of the INDIA bloc, reflected an attempt to dismantle democracy. He also criticised the treatment meted out to Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi during the protests, claiming that the authorities were using the police to crush dissent. “The BJP has deployed a huge army to criticise Rahul Gandhi …the blood of his grandparents and parents has mingled with the soil of this country. He also claimed govt faced widespread criticism on social media but was unwilling to acknowledge public anger.

The Congress leader was on tour of Marathwada to review the drought situation for the past three days before heading to Delhi on Friday morning.
