Cops have arrested Pranjal Thakaran, a 22-year-old student, regarding the recent firing incident involving actor Tiger Shroff
MUMBAI: Cops investigating last Sunday’s firing at actor Tiger Shroff arrested a 22-year-old student from Indore and recovered a Turkish-made Zigana pistol, a country-made firearm and 10 live cartridges from Surat. It took police around 8-10 hours to locate the firearms.
Thakaran’s name surfaced during interrogation of the arrested accused and through technical evidence, according to investigators. A Mumbai police officer said his alleged links to the weapon supply chain were being examined. About the recovery of the weapons, sources said Mumbai police had taken the arrested shooters to Surat to find the spot where they had discarded the weapons. “Thakaran had arrived in Indore five days ago to meet his brother, who is undergoing treatment in the city,” said additional DCP Rajesh Dandotiya.
Pranjal Thakaran, who is pursuing engineering in Haryana’s Sonipat, is the 11th suspect to be arrested in the case. He is suspected to be part of the support network and to have been in contact with a shooter, reports Mateen Hafeez. The weapons and ammunition will be sent to the Kalina forensic science lab for ballistic analysis. Police sources say Lawrence Bishnoi gang has used the Zigana pistol in the past. The youth arrested from Indore, Pranjal Thakaran, was in contact with the person who allegedly carried out the firing at actor Tiger Shroff, preliminary questioning of the arrested suspects has indicated. Thakaran, who is studying in Haryana, was arrested from a rehab centre in Indore. The arrest followed inputs received by Mumbai Crime Branch about Thakaran’s presence in Indore. A joint team subsequently arrested him. Thakaran was produced before an Indore magistrate court, which granted him a three-day transit remand.
He will be brought to Mumbai and produced before the Esplanade court for further remand proceedings. Dandotiya said Mumbai Crime Branch contacted its Indore counterparts on Thursday night, following which technical surveillance and other inputs helped trace his location.
