RTO Revenue Soars
Chandrapur : Craze for fancy vehicle registration numbers fetched Chandrapur Regional Transport Office (RTO) Rs2.20 crore in 2025-26, an increase of Rs66.21 lakh or 42.87% over the previous financial year. The RTO received 1,816 applications for choice numbers, up by 296 from 1,520 applications in 2024-25 during the year. The numbers 0007 and 5555 were among the most expensive, with applicants paying a minimum of Rs2.10 lakh each. Other popular choices included 0009, 0111, 0011, 0005 and 7777.

Deputy regional transport officer Raosaheb Ragde said the growing interest in choice numbers reflected public confidence in the facility. “The online process has made the facility more accessible,” Ragde said. The trend reflects willingness among motorists to pay a premium for numbers associated with personal identity, family significance or business interests. Some consider a particular number lucky, prompting them to pay substantially more than the standard registration charges. As per RTO figures, numbers considered prestigious or auspicious attracted the strongest demand. Govt permits applicants to obtain preferred vehicle registration numbers by paying fees prescribed for different number categories. Applications and allotment are handled through an online process in accordance with the applicable rules. Download the TOI App.
