Solapur highway traffic
Deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Sandeep Bhajibhakre said, ”A garbage dumper broke down at Fatima Nagar signal which caused delay in traffic movement. Asked how a single vehicle breakdown caused traffic delays for hours, Bhajibhakare said, ”Even a single vehicle breakdown can cause people to panic and try overtaking one another in a haphazard manner. Sangeeta Jadhav, police inspector, Wanowrie traffic division, said, “The road running alongside the canal on BT Kawade Road, which falls within the jurisdiction of the Wanowrie traffic division, has been closed for four days now by the Wanowrie zonal office of the Municipal Corporation. Pruthvi Shelke, a two-wheeler rider riding on the road., said, ”When the four-wheelers and buses are blocking the entire road then two-wheelers are forced to ride over footpaths.
Despite traffic police being deployed at crucial signal junctions and volunteers trying to help clear vehicles and no rain to reduce the speed, movement remained slow on the highway, BT Kawade Road, Prince of Wales Drive and the roads leading towards and out of Hadapsar and adjoining areas. Upon personally inspecting the site, it was observed that the canal walls on both sides have collapsed, and the canal is flowing at full capacity. The collapse of the wall has caused the adjacent road to cave in. The Bhairoba Nala passes through an underpass beneath this canal. As the canal wall has completely collapsed in several places, the adjacent road is gradually eroding from the side and subsiding. To avoid any mishap among motorists, Pune Municipal Corporation chief engineer ordered its closure. They assessed the situation firsthand. It is wrong but we have no choice. The police and PMC must come up with a concrete solution for this road. Every minor inconvenience on the road leads to hours of delay in traffic, this is not done.”
Today, a joint site inspection was conducted by municipal ward officer Amol Pawar, irrigation department section officer Savita Elmeli, canal ;inspector Vaibhav Gavhane, Pune Cantonment Board president Sachin Mathurawala and Sameer Shendkar, representing MLA Kamble. A joint meeting involving the irrigation department officials, municipal corporation officials and cantonment board officials is scheduled tomorrow with the MLA to discuss the issue regarding the canal wall and resolve the matter as soon as possible.
