Chandrapur : The state govt has ordered an on-ground assessment of drought conditions in Ballarpur, Jiwati and Brahmapuri talukas of Chandrapur district, opening the possibility of their inclusion in the drought-relief framework.
The three talukas were among 15 in the district initially excluded when 12 were brought under Trigger-1 drought measures for the 2026 kharif season. For the 12 talukas already covered under Trigger-1, the state had ordered crop-loss assessments and measures including farmer relief, fodder and drinking-water arrangements and other drought-related concessions. Mungantiwar said the severity of drought could be assessed only by examining conditions in farmers’ fields rather than relying solely on administrative data. He thanked the chief minister for ordering the field assessment and said eligible farmers should not be deprived of relief. The decision follows a meeting between MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar and chief minister Devendra Fadnavis . The agriculture department has been directed to collect field-level data through crop surveys, ground-truthing and necessary panchnamas. The findings will determine whether the three talukas qualify for drought-relief measures. Download the TOI App.
