Nagpur: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday took a dig at Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi for tweeting on the Gokul Dairy polls in Kolhapur, saying it was not a national issue, and defended state govt’s decision to give nominated members voting rights as the way out of a quorum deadlock on the union’s board.
On the decision itself, Fadnavis said, “That was not taken for Gokul, rather a unique situation has arisen there, in which right now one side has 13 seats and the other has 12 seats. “Those who have got 13 seats, if they want to get the chairman elected, then there is no quorum there. Because in recent times they have to see victories in such places where just 5,000 votes are cast, rahul Gandhi feels it is national now. Because of that, the last meeting too was cancelled,” Fadnavis said.
Gandhi had said on X that the nominations amounted to “adulteration in the mandate” after milk producers voted against the BJP. During an informal interaction with media in Nagpur, Fadnavis said, “This is not a national issue. He then spelt out the deadlock.
Congress MLC Satej Patil’s alliance won 13 of 25 Gokul seats and the Mahayuti won 12. “Therefore, the state govt, in such a situation, decided to nominate members and give them the right to vote.
“If a meeting is cancelled without quorum twice, two or three times, then the election itself will be cancelled,” he said. Fadnavis warned of what comes next. The cabinet on Wednesday cleared five govt nominees for cooperative bodies, of whom four will vote.
