Fire
Nagpur: A fire broke out in a 10th-floor flat at Narendra Nagar on Wednesday morning, damaging furniture and household articles worth Rs 5 lakh. A short circuit is suspected to have triggered the blaze, though the exact cause is yet to be confirmed. The house owner, Lipisa Behera’s son and a domestic help, who were present at the time, were rescued with the help of neighbours. Residents of the building near Narendra Nagar flyover alerted the fire brigade. Residents alleged that the building’s firefighting equipment was non-functional. The flames spread rapidly, prompting residents to alert the fire brigade. Local corporator Pradeep Pohane alerted the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s control room. Fire brigade personnel reached the spot, cleared the fallen tree and restored traffic movement.
In another incident, garbage dumped on an open plot at Shatabdi Square caught fire around 2pm on Wednesday. Meanwhile, traffic was disrupted in Surya Nagar in the Kalamna area on Wednesday afternoon after a gulmohar tree fell across the road.
