The court said her insistence on physical verification had required the authorities to mobilise their machinery. Describing her conduct in the circumstances as “totally blameworthy”, the bench said it would otherwise have imposed ₹50,000 in costs but reduced the amount to ₹25,000 considering that the petitioner was a student.
NEET-UG 2026 Score Dispute Resolved in Court
A 17-year-old student from Nagpur recently contested her NEET-UG 2026 score of 160 out of 720 marks, claiming it was incorrectly awarded. However, after reviewing her original OMR answer sheet, she acknowledged that the score was indeed accurate. This development was confirmed during proceedings at the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court last week.
The student, who was seeking admission to an MBBS course, challenged her July 16, 2026, scorecard, alleging that the marks did not reflect the answers she had actually marked on the OMR sheet. Based on her own assessment against the answer key, she expected approximately 680 marks. After the authorities permitted the aspirant to inspect the original OMR sheet, her counsel told the court that she found the scorecard awarding her 160 marks to be correct. The bench also took note of an affidavit filed by the student on Aug 7 in which she stated that the consequences of the inspection had been explained to her and that she was willing to face any action permissible in law if her claim proved incorrect. She claimed she expected about 680 marks, alleged NTA wrongly evaluated her OMR responses After inspection, she accepted that the score of 160 was correct
She sought production and physical verification of the original answer sheet and retallying of her responses.
