India’s first Vande Bharat freight rake was tested at speeds of up to 130 kmph on the Ahmedabad-Mumbai Central route. RDSO is conducting the trials with a 50% payload and an axle load of 20.32 tonnes. The 16-coach freight rake reached 130 kmph during trials between Ahmedabad and Mumbai Central. It has a design speed of around 160 kmph. The rake had earlier touched about 145 kmph in an empty condition during trials on the Kota division of West Central Railway. The freight rake left the Inland Container Depot at Sabarmati for Mumbai Central at around 9am on September 12. The Vande Bharat freight rake is undergoing trials with a 50% payload and an axle load of 20.32 tonnes. It has 16 coaches and a design speed of around 160 kmph. The freight rake has parcel coaches and refrigerated vans for cargo movement. It also features wide automatic doors and roller flooring for loading and unloading. CCTV, fire detection, automatic door locking and Kavach are among its other features. The freight rake is designed to carry e-commerce shipments, courier parcels, electronics, pharmaceuticals and cold-chain products. Trials are being conducted before a decision on commercial operations. RDSO is conducting high-speed trials of the Vande Bharat freight rake on the Ahmedabad-Vadodara-Mumbai Central section. The testing includes assessments of running performance, stability and safety. Trial data will be analysed before a decision on commercial operations.
