A massive boulder, large quantity of soil, stones and debris fell onto the tracks, covering the railway line and obstructing the route ahead. Devotees to the Ganpati temple alerted the railways. Navi Mumbai: Ahead of the resumption of the Neral-Matheran toy train service after monsoon, a landslide was reported near the Ganpati temple area on Tuesday, impacting the movement of goods trains. The landslide is suspected to have been triggered by the 110mm rainfall recorded in the area on Monday night.
The service is expected to resume by Oct 15. The passenger toy train service between Neral and Matheran is shut during monsoon. The shuttle train service between Aman Lodge and Matheran is operating as usual. However, Central Railway is putting all-out effort to resume the service along the 21km stretch.
