City traffic police personnel impose fines on cops for riding bikes without helmets
The directive comes ahead of stricter helmet enforcement across the district from Sept 1, with superintendent of police Amol Tambe making it clear that police personnel will not be exempt from the rules they enforce. As part of the drive, 58 police officers and personnel have already been penalised for riding two-wheelers without helmets. Tambe has directed officers in charge of all 23 police stations in the district to ensure that every officer and employee arriving on a two-wheeler wears a helmet.
Police said violations will now be entered in the service books of errant personnel, giving the action consequences beyond routine traffic fines. “Police officers and personnel are not to be given any exemption from the rule,” he has instructed. The district police said the move is aimed at leading by example and reinforcing the message that helmet use is a safety necessity rather than a mere traffic requirement.
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: In a first, Latur police have ordered that helmet violations by their own officers and personnel be recorded in their service books, making them liable not just for fines but also potential impacts on future increments, promotions and postings. Any violation will invite penal action as well as a service-book entry.
