Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A 50-year-old sub-inspector attached to the Hingoli police control room allegedly died by suicide after jumping in front of a moving train near Khatkali bypass on Saturday morning.
Gangalwad reached the railway tracks around 9am and waited for a train travelling from Purna towards Akola, according to police. Police said no suicide note was found at the scene. As the train approached, he allegedly jumped in front of it, sustaining fatal injuries. The locomotive pilot immediately alerted railway authorities, following which the city police were informed. Senior officers, including superintendent of police Shrenik Lodha and additional SP Kamlesh Meena, rushed to the spot. Police took custody of the body and sent it to govt hospital for postmortem. They have, however, learnt that Gangalwad was undergoing treatment for a stomach-related ailment. The exact circumstances that led him to take the extreme step remain unclear and are under investigation. Known among colleagues as an affable and dedicated officer, Gangalwad’s sudden death has left the police department shocked.
