NASHIK: The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) seized 5,040 bottles of Ayurvedic hair oil worth Rs 50.35 lakh for allegedly making misleading claims that it could regrow hair on bald heads, the agency said on Friday. The FDA’s Nashik division seized the stock on Thursday during an inspection of a beauty salon and imitation jewellery business under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, according to an official statement.
The product, marketed as VS Hair Growth Oil, was being promoted and sold through social media platforms, including Instagram and Facebook, with claims that it could regrow hair and stimulate hair growth in bald persons, the statement said.
The product label carried the name of the marketing firm, batch number, manufacturing date and maximum retail price of Rs 999 for a 100 ml bottle. The FDA said further investigation was underway to identify the actual manufacturer.
