Security presence was gradually scaled down after a Bombay high court hearing during the day, even as protesters remained firm at the location and continued their stir. A large police contingent had been deployed around the bridge in the morning amid uncertainty over the next course of action at the protest site. Barricades and police personnel were visible around the area as more aspirants and supporters gathered. Protesters, however, maintained that they would continue the agitation and remained at the site. As the day progressed and the situation eased, the atmosphere at the protest site became calmer. Protesters continued raising slogans and holding discussions, while fresh groups of aspirants began joining the agitation towards evening. MLA Rohit Pawar reiterated that protesters would not withdraw until their demands were addressed. “We are firm on our stand and will not move from here. Let govt try to remove us. If you have the courage, touch even one student,” Pawar dared. He maintained that students were exercising their democratic right to protest and that the agitation would continue peacefully. The PIL in HC had sought withdrawal of protesters blocking roads. The stir continues into its seventh day and we will be here till we get clarity on our demands. The mood at the protest site shifted through the day. The morning saw heightened security and tension, with protesters and police personnel positioned around the area. Following court proceedings, heavy security presence eased and protesters resumed their sit-in without any major confrontation. Groups of students were seen discussing the developments and coordinating the next course of action. Congress leader Vishwajeet Kadam, who has also been at the protest site from day one, extended his support to the protesting aspirants. The questions raised about their exams, recruitment processes, transparency and the functioning of the commission must be addressed in time, rather than through assurances alone. I firmly support the stand of students protesting through democratic means. I will always stand with the students. Kadam added, “Instead of suppressing the voice of students, it is the responsibility of govt and the administration to listen to their concerns and ensure transparency in the examination process. As night approached, the protest site remained active, with students continuing their sit-in and discussions. The easing of security deployment after the morning tension allowed the agitation to continue without disruption, while the increased presence of aspirants towards evening indicated that the protest remained active a week down the line. He shared a video on social media and questioned Youth Congress functionary Shivraj More’s presence at the site. “Rohit Pawar, is this your nightlife? Ban asked. He came to help me when a boy was harassing me. Ban’s allegations and More’s counterclaims could not be independently verified. Download the TOI App.
