Nagpur: Water supply remained disrupted in several parts of the city for over 60 hours till Thursday night as work undertaken during the scheduled 36-hour shutdown at Pench-4 Water Treatment Plant remained incomplete.
The shutdown was scheduled from 10am on October 6 to 10pm on October 7 for two interconnection works on 1,400mm-diameter pipelines near Mankapur Nallah and replacement of the inlet flow meter at Omkar Nagar New ESR. The shutdown affected 20 command areas, including Nara, Nara NIT, Nari, Amrut Nari-1 and 2, Jaripatka, Dhantoli, Laxmi Nagar New, Shri Nagar, Nalanda Nagar, Omkar Nagar Existing and Proposed, Amrut Omkar Nagar, Amrut Double Decker, Hudkeshwar, Sakkardara 1, 2 and 3, Amrut Bidipeth and Amrut Balaji. Officials said the pipeline work involved shifting a line to facilitate interconnections for the Penchpur feeder. Though the shutdown was expected to end by 10pm Wednesday, the work was extended, delaying restoration of water supply, executive engineer Shrikant Waikar said. The work is being carried out by the World Bank Division of the state PWD. Hudkeshwar-Narsala rural areas and Godhani gram panchayat were also affected. Residents in several localities remained without regular water supply as the extended shutdown delayed restoration. Till filing of this report, the work was still not completed.
