Because two alert policemen intervened in the nick of time, the victim survived only. Nashik : A petty dispute over picking up passengers at Thakkar Bazaar bus stand nearly turned fatal on Monday evening, with two men allegedly trying to kill an autorickshaw driver in full public view near Trimbak Naka.
The dramatic rescue unfolded around 7.15pm when assistant sub-inspector Sunil Adke and constable Guru Gangurde of the city crime branch’s anti-gunda squad were passing through the busy Trimbak Naka junction. Police arrested Pavan Patil (25) and Rahul Sonawane (25), both residents of Wadner Dumala on Deolali Camp Road. The investigation revealed that the violence stemmed from an ongoing rivalry between two groups of autorickshaw drivers over operating from the Thakkar Bazaar bus stand.
He and his associates had been operating from the bus stand for some time, according to the complaint lodged by autorickshaw driver Deepak Patil. However, “Pavan Patil had been objecting to us operating our vehicles from the stand and threatening to kill us,” he told police. They noticed a man lying on the road and being repeatedly attacked with stones. Based on the complaint, police registered a case of attempt to murder against four people, including Pavan Patil and Rahul Sonawane.
