Nashik Road police arrest four burglars, solve 11 cases & recover booty worth Rs 24 lakh

Nashik : The detection branch of Nashik Road police has solved 11 housebreaking and burglary cases with the arrest of four habitual offenders from the Mumbai region, recovering stolen property worth Rs 24.2 lakh, including 200g of gold, vehicles and burglary tools. Police traced the vehicles to Mankhurd in Mumbai and detained Sanjay Kamble alias Salim Shaikh (45). Acting on the lead, police laid a trap and arrested Vinod Pawar (48), a pavement dweller from Colaba, Sanjay Kamble (45) of Diva in Kalyan and Tausif Gorme (41) of Murud-Janjira in Raigad district. The accused were formally arrested on Sept 7. “They are believed to be involved in 15-16 housebreaking cases. Police have so far solved 11 cases linked to the gang, including four in Indiranagar, three in Nashik Road, two in Upnagar, one in Deolali Camp and one in Karjat in Raigad district.

Assistant commissioner of police (crime) Sandeep Mitke said the accused were repeat offenders with criminal records in Mumbai. They slept in their hatchback car after committing the crimes,” he said. During questioning, he disclosed that his associates were travelling towards Nashik via Shirdi and Manmad. During custodial interrogation, they confessed to several break-ins across Nashik city and admitted to selling stolen gold in Mankhurd.

The arrests followed an investigation into a burglary case in the Jail Road area on Aug 20. Acting under the guidance of police commissioner Sandeep Karnik, officers analysed CCTV footage and technical inputs, which led them to a car and a two-wheeler seen moving suspiciously near the crime scene.
