Nashik: The Central Railway will drop the superfast tag from six trains passing through the Bhusawal division from Jan 1, 2027, following a revision of their average speeds. The move will also do away with the supplementary charges levied on passengers travelling by these trains.
The numbers of these trains will also be revised from Jan 1. A train is classified as superfast if its average speed between the origin and destination exceeds 50 kmph. As the average speed drops below 50 kmph, the status is changed.
However, additional halts introduced following passenger demands increase travel time and reduce the average speed. “Owing to the additional halts introduced on demands, the average speed of trains comes down as they take time to decelerate and accelerate at stations.
The Railway Board has decided to revise the nomenclature and numbers of the six trains, according to a senior officer from the Bhusawal divisional railway manager’s office. This also means dropping of the supplementary charges that were applicable to the passengers travelling by the train,” the officer said. “The superfast tag has been dropped from six trains. After revising the average speeds of these trains, the Railway Board has decided to drop the status from their names,” the officer added. The revised numbers of the six trains are:
