Nashik : Traffic police have cracked down on vehicles using illegal black films, booking 1,562 motorists and collecting over Rs 7.7 lakh in fines in just one month. The drive, conducted from Aug 27 to Sept 27, covered major intersections and busy roads across Nashik. Supreme Court prohibited the use of black films or other material on vehicle windscreens and side windows in 2012.

This creates road hazards, increases the risk of accidents and puts motorists and pedestrians in danger. Some motorists have also fitted curtains inside their vehicles to block visibility. The month-long drive was carried out under the direction of police commissioner Sandeep Karnik and DCP (HQ and Traffic) Chandrakant Gawali.
