Tenders for 28 road projects have been completed and work has started on several stretches. NMC expects most of these projects to be ready by Dec, with the remaining stretches targeted for completion by March 2027. Because of the bitumen shortage and weather conditions, “The asphalting could not be taken up before the monsoon.
With the rains almost over, we plan to begin large-scale asphalting in the first or second half of Oct,” an NMC official said. City engineer Sanjay Agrawal said inspections of asphalt plants have already begun and preparations are under way to start work without delay. The Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority recently approved two more road projects, for which tenders are being floated. Work on cement concrete roads is also under way at several locations.
NMC commissioner Manisha Khatri has directed public works officials to inspect contractors’ asphalt plants before work begins. Officials will check the quality of bitumen and other material to ensure the roads meet prescribed standards. The monsoon caused further delays as bituminous works could not be undertaken during rain.
The civic body had planned to start the work earlier, but a bitumen shortage in May and June disrupted the schedule.
Nashik Municipal Corporation is developing nearly 30 roads, spanning about 150km, at an estimated Rs 1,300 crore. Around 40% of the network will be cement concrete, while the remaining stretches will be bituminous. The ceremonial flag-hoisting is scheduled for Oct 31, while the three major Amrit Snans will be held between Aug and Sept 2027.
