Cyber Fraud Targets Investor in Navi Mumbai
A 56-year-old woman entrepreneur from Nerul, Navi Mumbai, has fallen victim to a cyber scam, losing Rs 1.42 crore. The scammers, including a prominent female suspect, lured her with promises of high returns from online IPO investments associated with their stock market trading firm. The accused presented themselves as professionals, with one claiming to be an assistant analyst, which added credibility to their fraudulent scheme. This incident underscores the ongoing risks associated with online investment opportunities and highlights the need for vigilance among investors.
As per their instructions for IPO investment, the complainant gradually, transferred a total of Rs 1.42 crore to the bank accounts provided to her on the group from July 26 till August 5. Srinivasan then told her that as per their company’s risk management system, she will have to pay 10% of the amount to be withdrawn by her. Hence, she followed up by sending email to their company’s grievances department on August 11 stating the fraud committed by the company’s employees in the name of their company’s IPO investment.
She said that their company trades in Commodities, Future and Options, IPO, FPO, AI Mutual Funds and Equity in the stock market. She advised her to invest in IPO by claiming that the risk is less compared to other investments. As the complainant agreed to invest, Srinivasan sent her the company’s brochure. After that, she was made to processed it from the Deposit tab in the application to transfer the money to the bank accounts provided for investment.
