Onlooker hit by SUV during parking spat in Nerul, dies
Two of the accused—Satish Ram Tayade (27) from Nerul and Kalim Sorab Shaikh (23) from Kharghar—were arrested. Ajay Kamble, senior inspector, Nerul police, said Ashutosh Morajkar (33) and a friend, Mubin, went to a restaurant in Nerul on a scooter around 7am on Saturday. They parked their vehicle outside and met another acquaintance, Sujal Khedkar (21), inside.
A search for two others is underway. A little later, Mubin stepped out. Morajkar went looking for him after a while and found four men arguing with him over not having space to park their SUV. When Morajkar intervened, the four allegedly abused him. Khedkar, too, intervened. A crowd gathered. Two of the four accused left while the others stayed in their SUV. Morajkar demanded that they accompany him to the police station. The SUV driver allegedly reversed the vehicle, hitting a few parked bikes, Khedkar and then a spectator, Ranjith Singh Daljit Shergil from Kalamboli, who collapsed. The SUV occupants then allegedly assaulted Morajkar and Khedkar with a hockey stick and fled.
