Congress MLA Vijay Wadettiwar said, “So far 19 districts and 83 tehsils are facing water shortage. There are some tehsils in the state which have not received rainfall for the last 40 days. Congress MP from Solapur Praniti Shinde on Wednesday said, “The situation in Solapur district is getting worse with each passing day due to deficit rainfall in August. Though the Ujani dam is almost full, the management of the available water is an issue and therefore, we demand the govt to immediately declare drought and provide aid to people.
The Congress party has demanded the state govt to declare drought in the districts where there is a deficit rainfall. Congress claimed that the water scarcity is not limited to only Solapur but entire Marathwada and Vidardhba are facing water shortage. The state govt should take some measures to tackle the drought-like situation without any delay.
Shiv Sena (UBT) senior member Ambadas Danve said, “It is unfortunate that the MLAs of Mahayuti have to write letters to the chief minister. State agriculture minister Dattatray Bharne said the govt is reviewing the situation. He said, “After July rain, there has been quite low rainfall in Aug and the farmers who went ahead with sowing after July rain are in a precarious situation.
MLAs not only from the opposition but from Mahayuti are demanding the state to declare drought in Marathwada region. Former cabinet minister and NCP MLA Dhananjay Munde has written a letter to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis , requesting him to declare drought for the districts in the region. The opposition has criticised Munde. They are part of the govt and instead of writing letters, they should directly meet the chief minister and insist him to declare drought. If they are not able to raise the voice of farmers, what is the use of them being in the govt? We have discussed the issue in the cabinet meeting and the chief minister is reviewing the situation of the entire state. He will take a call once review is completed.”
