Preparations are under way at Ramkund as the stage is set for the Simhastha Kumbh Mela flag-hoisting ceremony on Oct 31
A 51-foot dhwajstambh has been installed for the Kumbh Mela flag, while a 31-foot dhwajstambh will carry the Dharma Dhwaj of the Nashik Purohit Sangh,” another NMC official said.
“A dedicated stage is being readied for the event, while most infrastructure works at the venue have already been completed,” an official said. The remaining works are likely to be wrapped up by Saturday, according to civic officials. “Nearby civic-run Indira Gandhi Hospital and Zakir Hussain Hospital will remain on alert, while beds are also being reserved at two leading private hospitals as a precautionary measure,” the official said.
President Droupadi Murmu is expected to attend the flag-hoisting ceremony and the Goda aarti on the right bank of Godavari near Ramkund. NMC has also sought approval from Kumbh Mela Authority for facilities proposed for sadhus and pilgrims attending the ceremony. NMC will deploy doctors and health personnel at the venue, backed by six ambulances for immediate medical response, to strengthen emergency preparedness. “We have reviewed arrangements at the ghats and inspected the two flagpoles installed for the ceremony.
Nashik : Preparations for the Dhwajarohan ceremony on Oct 31 are in the final stretch, with Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) making extensive arrangements at Ramkund and the adjoining Godaghat to manage the expected influx of sadhus, pilgrims and devotees. Special city bus services will operate from various parts of Nashik to Ramkund on Oct 31 to ease the movement of devotees attending the Dhwajarohan and evening aarti. In the lead-up to the event, the banks of Godavari will host a mass Shankhanaad programme on Sunday, where more than 500 participants are expected to simultaneously blow conch shells in an attempt to set a world record. The spectacle is also planned as a key attraction during the Oct 31 celebrations.
