Nashik : A 13-year-old boy studying in a day-boarding school in Ahilyanagar district’s Pathardi town was found dead in a hostel room on Wednesday morning. The 13-year-old boy and his younger brother, who was in Std V, have been studying in the private school run by an educational institute since 2024. The complaint stated that on Oct 19, the younger son told his father that the superintendent was harassing them over a misplaced dining plate. His father then sent Rs 30 to the shopowner,” a police officer said, citing the complaint.

The Pathardi police have registered a case of abetment of suicide against the superintendent, but have not arrested him, said API Rohan Khandagale. The staff of the hostel had already taken the boy to the hospital by the time information reached the police,” he said. Their father Abasaheb Babasaheb Kharat (39), a farmer from Kawadgaon in Beed district’s Gevrai taluka, stated in his complaint that both the sons have complained of “continuous harassment” by the hostel superintendent for the past three months. “Around 1pm that day, Kharat’s younger son called him up to report that his brother was found hanging in his hostel room and had fallen unconscious, and told him to get to Pathardi.”

His father alleged that the Std VII student ended his life following harassment by the hostel superintendent. “No suicide note was found. The hostel, about 1km from the school, is run by the same institute. Kharat added that he went to the hostel recently to speak to the superintendent about the complaints, but the latter denied the allegations. Kharat had again visited the hostel to resolve the issue.

“On Wednesday morning, the older son called his father up and asked for money to visit a clinic for stomach pain.

The officer added: “While Kharat was en route, he spoke to the superintendent, who told him that his son was admitted to the sub-district hospital in Pathardi. On reaching the hospital, Kharat was told that his son had died.”
