The National Conference on Patient Safety 2026 concluded at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Nagpur, emphasizing the critical importance of prioritizing patient safety in healthcare, especially in the management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Over two days, healthcare leaders, clinicians, nursing professionals, administrators, and patient safety experts from across India engaged in discussions aimed at improving safety protocols and practices in medical settings.

Centred on the theme “Safe Care for Non-Communicable Diseases” and the slogan “Safe Care for Life!”, the conference highlighted the growing importance of patient safety amid the rising burden of chronic illnesses such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer and respiratory disorders. He said healthcare institutions must consistently work towards safer systems that minimise risks and improve patient outcomes. Organised by AIIMS Nagpur in collaboration with National Patient Safety Secretariat (NPSS) under Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the conference served as a national platform to discuss strategies for improving patient safety and quality of care in India’s healthcare system. The inaugural session was attended by Dr Anil Sukhdevrao Bonde, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Chairperson of Indian Medical Parliamentarians’ Forum, as the chief guest, while former Rajya Sabha member Ajay Sancheti was the guest of honour. Dr Sujata Chaudhary, Additional DGHS, was present on the occasion. Prof (Dr) Prashant P Joshi, Executive Director of AIIMS Nagpur, underscored the importance of building a culture of safety, continuous quality improvement and evidence-based patient-centred care. A major highlight of the conference was the participation of senior healthcare leaders, including directors of six AIIMS institutions and experts from leading healthcare organisations.
