Nagpur: While autorickshaw menace continues to rise on city roads, the traffic police action against erring drivers is witnessing a decline, revealed a reply to an RTI query.
Still, actions against autorickshaw drivers have declined sharply across nine out of 11 traffic zones, falling from 32,341 in 2024 to 19,965 in 2025, a drop of nearly 38%, shows the RTI reply. The downward trend continued in 2026, with only 6,409 actions recorded till July, indicating a substantial decline compared with the previous two years. The two-and-a-half-year data points to an average of 73 actions against autorickshaw drivers daily, highlighting the scale of traffic violations. Sitabuldi zone recorded the highest number of actions against auto drivers at 14,667, followed by Cotton Market with 11,280. Indora accounted for 7,973, Kamptee 7,039 and Lakadganj 6,710. Ajni recorded 4,974 actions, followed by Sonegaon with 4,964, Sakkardara with 4,172 and Sadar with 3,714. MIDC recorded 2,553 actions, while Pardi and Kalamna reported 694 and 126, respectively. Ajni recorded the highest number of accidents at 455, followed by Indora with 311, Kamptee with 302, MIDC with 262, Sadar with 210, Sakkardara with 197, Sonegaon with 185, Sitabuldi with 157, Cotton Market with 130, Lakadganj with 69 and Kalamna with 42.
Across the city, traffic continues to take a hit due to autorickshaw drivers jumping signals, waiting for passengers at no-parking zones and wrong-side driving.
