Pune: A 46-year-old farmer from Phursungi was allegedly duped of Rs40 lakh by paying ‘insurance premium’ to a man posing as an insurance agent. The farmer had two insurance policies, one worth Rs15 lakh in his name and another worth Rs10 lakh in the name of his 12-year-old son An officer from Phursungi police said, “In Dec 2025, a man claiming to be an agent of the insurance company called him and asked to deposit Rs 15 lakh towards the premium. The complainant transferred the amount through RTGS. He subsequently received messages asking him to transfer more money towards the premium, transferring a total of Rs40 lakh.”
Phursungi police registered a case on Thursday.
“Suspecting something was amiss, the complainant visited the insurance company’s office in Mumbai and found the company had not received any payment from him since December 2025. However, the man told him that the policy had to be surrendered and renewed. The complainant repeatedly asked the agent for receipts.
