Pune: A 59-year-old Dhankawdi resident was allegedly cheated of Rs: The wider industry impact

Pune: A 59-year-old Dhankawdi resident was allegedly cheated of Rs 87.60 lakh by cyberfraudsters who lured him into an investment scheme promising daily returns of 2.5%.

He received more than Rs 1,000 in returns within a day. The complainant subsequently transferred a total of Rs 87.60 lakh. The suspects stopped responding to his calls and messages in July 2025.

The suspects contacted the man through a messaging app, claiming to represent an investment company, according to the police. One of them said he managed investments and offered to explain the scheme after the complainant raised questions. The man initially transferred a small amount to two bank accounts provided by the suspects. Police suspect the fraudsters used this initial payout to gain his confidence and persuade him to invest larger sums.
