Pune: An assistant police inspector from the Loni Kalbhor police station was arrested by the state anti-corruption bureau (ACB) for allegedly soliciting a bribe of Rs 2.5 lakh. The arrest occurred late Tuesday night in Manjari, near Hadapsar, where the officer was found to have accepted an initial payment of Rs 50,000. This incident highlights ongoing issues related to corruption within law enforcement agencies in the region.

The arrested officer was identified as Krushna Janardhan Babar (45), a resident of Manjari. The Loni Kalbhor police had registered a cheating case against a 57-year-old man and his son from Hadapsar, which Babar was investigating, according to the ACB. The ACB has registered a case against him at Hadapsar police station. The man, who is also the complainant in the bribery case, approached Babar a few days ago and requested him to submit the chargesheet in court at the earliest.

The complainant handed over Rs 50,000 to Babar on Tuesday night, following which ACB officials caught the officer red-handed.
