In cases where authorised constructions are located along drain routes, the agencies have been directed to explore alternative routes and plan for diversion of the drains,” he said. Dudi said merely filling potholes is not enough and stressed the need for an effective stormwater drainage network to ensure proper runoff. During a review meeting of a high-level task force constituted to address traffic congestion and infrastructure issues in the Chakan and Hinjewadi industrial areas district collector Jitendra Dudi directed govt agencies to remove temporary encroachments on drains immediately and take action against unauthorised constructions. “Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) will survey drains falling under their respective jurisdictions and compile details of encroachments. The move comes as recurring waterlogging and road infrastructure problems continue to plague the Chakan industrial belt. The task force also reviewed road widening, junctions, medians and U-turns in the area. Traffic simulation and Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) tools will be considered for traffic planning, particularly on national highways. The collector asked police to take action against unauthorised stopping and parking of buses and other vehicles on highways and service roads, and ensure that vehicles stop only at designated bus stops and planned depots. Separately, Maan and Mahalunge residents met with NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule to apprise her of the lack of infrastructure in the area. They have demanded that PMC should give a specific timeline for completion of the two key roads connecting with the Hinjewadi IT park. Download the TOI App.
