Pune: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday granted in-principle approval to a Rs 1,400-crore plan for improving roads, infrastructure, traffic management and drainage systems in Chakan. He has also approved Rs 426 crore to alleviate traffic congestion in Hinjewadi. Pune district collector Jitendra Dudi outlined a presentation to the CM in Mumbai.
Additionally, govt will construct a stormwater drainage network spanning approximately 38 km alongside the roads. The plan also includes improvements to 75 km of roads by constructing footpaths and road safety systems. Govt agencies have conducted a study on the total 498-km road in Chakan. He raised a requirement for 500 additional buses which is expected to alleviate traffic congestion. The Rs 426-crore plan for Hinjewadi includes improving power supply, deploying 100 personnel from the Maharashtra Security Force to assist with traffic congestion and waste collection services which will be undertaken by either the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation or the Pune Municipal Corporation.

To address the issue of waterlogging in Chakan, Dudi has asked various agencies to clear natural drains, establish stormwater drainage systems along both sides of the roads, increase the capacity of culverts and bridges and create water storage facilities. The routes of the drains have been determined based on a survey conducted by the irrigation department. The objective is to clear the natural drains and complete the stormwater drainage system by Jun. The work will be executed by making optimal use of the existing space such that no additional land acquisition will not be required. The agencies will also allocate space beneath the roads for various utility lines. Dudi also informed the CM of a public transport plan for adding route-specific bus services have been planned for workers commuting to Chakan from Pimpri-Chinchwad and Pune. Download the TOI App.
The infra works are expected to start in Dec and significant improvement in traffic will be achieved before the onset of the next monsoon, as per a statement.
