Pune: Hinjewadi police on Wednesday registered a case against a couple for allegedly duping three people of Rs 8.15 lakh on the promise of giving them high returns on cryptocurrency investments. A 23-year-old woman from Wakad, who works with a private company, lodged a police complaint on Wednesday.
The police have registered a case under BNS section 318 (cheating) and relevant sections of the Information Technology Act. “After waiting for almost four months, when she did not receive returns or even her money back, she approached the police,” the officer said. Download the TOI App.
Over two months, she invested Rs 2.73 lakh, and got a father-son duo she knew to also invest Rs 5.42 lakh through the suspects.
An officer said the complainant came into contact with the couple in April, when they allegedly promised her good returns if she invested in cryptocurrency through them.
