Pune: Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to expand the CCTV camera network across its municipal schools at a project cost of Rs 2 crore.
The plan will benefit schools across civic areas,” said Shrinath Bhimale, chairman of the standing committee. The school project will include DVR systems, copper wiring, network and HDMI cables, network switches, networking hardware, electrical connections, and associated equipment. An execution deadline of eight months has been fixed for completion. “The move aims at providing better security to the students. In other decisions, PMC also cleared the proposal to convert overhead electricity cables into underground cables in the Katraj-Kondhwa area. The committee also gave the go-ahead to supply gas cylinders to seven crematoriums.
A decision to appoint a private contractor and set up the necessary electrical and network infrastructure was taken by PMC’s standing committee on Thursday.
The overhead power lines of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) in the area from Abhay Aranya Society to Shivshambho Nagar Lane Number 1 on Katraj-Kondhwa Road will now be re-laid underground. An expenditure of approximately Rs 2.6 crore is expected for this, and the work is planned to be completed within nine months. PMC will pay around Rs 1 crore for the supply of cylinders to gas crematoriums in Hadapsar, the old and new Katraj burial grounds, Wanowrie, Ganganagar, Vaikunth, and Mundhwa. An allocation of Rs 3.6 crore has been made for the supply of LPG cylinders for gas crematoriums in the municipal corporation’s budget for 2026–27.

As LPG cylinder prices change from time to time according to Union govt decisions, bills will be paid to the supplier concerned based on the rates applicable in the month of actual supply. High-tension and low-tension power lines of MSEDCL in the area concerned currently run via electricity poles. To shift these cables underground, the PMC electrical department had requested an estimate from MSEDCL. Based on their estimation, the funds were approved. A detailed project report (DPR) has been prepared for various development works at Vaikunth, and tenders for these works will be floated soon. Finally, the committee has rejected an administrative proposal to establish a separate procedure for rectifying duplicate-triplicate entries, typographical errors, and administrative flaws in property tax assessments.
