Pune: Six women from Bangladesh were rescued from different brothels located in the red-light area of Budhwar Peth in the early hours of Wednesday.

An officer said, “These women were brought to Pune from Bangladesh about four months ago. They told us the agents helped them to cross the border and promised lucrative jobs in Mumbai and other cities. Faraskhana police registered a case later in the day against four persons for pushing the women into prostitution. They have detained two agents accused in the case, while the other two who have been identified are on the run. Deputy commissioner of police (Zone I) Krushikesh Rawale formed a joint team of Faraskhana, Vishrambaug and Khadak police stations and raided these brothels after receiving a tip-off. They did not have valid documents or ID cards. However, they brought these women to Pune and sold them to the brothel keepers. They were similarly brought to Pune with the promise of jobs and then forced into prostitution.

Earlier this year, in March, Pune city police had rescued four Bangladeshi women from a brothel in Budhwar Peth.
