Pune : The city airport has recorded a 43.9% increase in overall cargo handling between Jan and Aug this year compared to the corresponding period last year. During this period, the airport handled 45,050.7 MT of cargo, up from 31,303 MT last year. Cargo traffic crossed the 6,000 MT milestone in both May and Aug this year. The highest volume was handled in May (6,147.8 MT), followed closely by Aug (6,046.8 MT).

Murlidhar Mohol, the Union minister of state for civil aviation and cooperation, said, “The substantial rise in cargo traffic at Pune airport is a positive indicator of the expanding economic and industrial potential of Pune and its surrounding regions. Robust and rapid air-cargo connectivity is crucial for the growth of these industries. ” “The govt is committed to strengthening aviation infrastructure and connectivity, ensuring that airports evolve beyond mere passenger transport hubs into vital centres that drive trade, logistics, investment, and regional economic growth. Pune airport’s performance has also been impressive in terms of month-wise statistics. Pune is a key hub for high-value sectors such as manufacturing, automobiles, engineering, technology, and pharmaceuticals.
