In 2024, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce turned a devastating day for Kansas City into an opportunity to support families facing unimaginable loss. After a shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade left one person dead and 22 others injured, both stars stepped forward with $100,000 donations. Swift supported the family of Lisa Lopez-Galvan, the local radio host who was killed, while Kelce directed his contribution toward the family of two young girls who were injured. Their separate donations came as the city struggled to process the tragedy that unfolded during what was meant to be a celebration.
The fundraiser had initially set a goal of $75,000 to help the family deal with the financial impact of the tragedy. Lopez-Galvan was the only person killed, while 22 people suffered injuries. Police said half of those injured were younger than 16.
It quickly moved beyond that target, reflecting the widespread response from people who wanted to help. Kelce had been at the parade following Kansas City’s Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers. In the days that followed, the Chiefs tight end joined other NFL figures in paying tribute to those affected. The shooting occurred as the celebration at Kansas City’s Union Station was ending. The tragedy cast a shadow over the Chiefs’ championship celebrations, but Swift and Kelce’s donations provided direct financial support to families dealing with the consequences.
