Kolhapur : In cases of voters detail anomalies, if the Block Level Officer (BLO) is satisfied after inspecting documents, the issue should be resolved at their level, and hearings should be conducted in cases involving critical questions like citizenship or unmapped voters, said Sheetal Teli-Ugale, the Electoral Roll Observer (ERO) for Pune Division on Wednesday.
Work should be planned so that hearings for a single BLO’s area are completed on the same day,” said the ERO. Furthermore, representatives suggested that voters from the same family should be assigned the same polling station, emphasising that the administration must remain vigilant so that eligible voters are not left out and ineligible candidates do not pass through.
She said that during hearings, voters must not be put in the dark, and if doubts arise regarding a voter’s citizenship, officials are required to inspect the documents properly, adopt a voter-centric approach, and ensure voters face no unnecessary hassles. “Harassment of voters during the SIR process will not be tolerated. Assistant electoral registration officers must ensure that all staff under their supervision work responsibly. Political parties also assured cooperation with the administration during the SIR process.
