Nashik : A major accident was averted in Nashik’s Panchavati area on Saturday after the driver of a schoolbus, carrying around 15 hearing and speech-impaired students, managed to stop the vehicle following a brake failure on the busy Godaghat stretch.
A 32-year-old woman riding a scooter suffered minor injuries after being hit by the bus during the emergency manoeuvre. The bus was ferrying students towards Panchavati when the driver realised the braking system had failed as the vehicle entered the crowded Godaghat area, according to Panchavati police. Senior inspector Gajendra Patil, of the Panchavati police station, said the driver’s quick thinking prevented a potentially serious tragedy. No case is being registered against him,” Patil said.
All students escaped unhurt. To avoid ploughing into traffic and pedestrians, the driver steered the bus to the side of the road. During the manoeuvre, the bus struck a scooter and then crashed into a tin shed before coming to a halt. Police and emergency teams rushed to the spot and safely evacuated all the students.
