Kolhapur: The Miraj Rural Police registered a case against seven people from Solapur district on late Friday night for allegedly defrauding four people of Rs28.05 lakh on the pretext of providing them govt jobs in Sangli district
The accused allegedly took Rs28.05 lakh from the people after assuring them that they would secure jobs in govt departments, according to the complaint. Birajdar allegedly joined hands with six other suspects, identified by their surnames as Verma, Sharma, Rao, Mishra, Saxena and Deshpande, who allegedly collected Rs20 lakh from the victims and also defrauded Rs8.05 lakh from Amol, son of Vilas Bhimrao Patil, another relative of Birajdar, on the pretext of providing a govt job.
Somnath Wagh, police inspector at Miraj Rural Police Station, said Devanna Magdum, a Linganur resident, met Mahadev Birajdar a few months ago and Birajdar lured Magdum’s son Pramod, son-in-law Sheetal Kirnige and daughter-in-law Jyoti with promises of govt jobs. The Sangli Economic Offences Wing and Miraj Rural Police are investigating the case.

People are urged not to trust such offers or pay money for jobs without proper verification,” said PI Wagh. The accused assured victims that they would receive calls regarding their appointments. However, when no calls were received after a month of waiting and when families of Kirnige and Jyoti began questioning Magdum about the money, Magdum contacted Birajdar to enquire about the jobs. The suspects avoided giving clear answers repeatedly and Magdum then demanded a refund from Birajdar. However, Birajdar and his associates subsequently switched off their mobile phones. Realising that he had been cheated, Magdum approached Miraj Rural Police and lodged a complaint. Further investigation is underway in the case. Download the TOI App.
