A search, assisted by the sniffer dog ‘Veeru’, revealed 25.16kg of marijuana concealed in their trolley bags. The seized contraband is valued at Rs 12,58,350. “Acting on intelligence, the CIB team maintained surveillance on two women in the B3 coach of Puri-Gandhidham Express. Upon arrival at platform three of the Bhusawal station, the team detained the suspects. The two women, residents of Hoshangabad district in Madhya Pradesh, were arrested red-handed,” the official stated. These back-to-back incidents indicate a trend of smugglers disguising themselves as ordinary commuters. The confiscated contraband and arrested individuals have been handed over to the Bhusawal govt railway police for legal proceedings under the NDPS Act.

The inspection led to the recovery of 10 large bundles of marijuana, valued at Rs10 lakh from his sack. Prior to this, a smuggling attempt was foiled on the Gitanjali Express. “Our team intercepted a youth who alighted at Bhusawal station under suspicious circumstances. The accused, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, was taken into custody,” the officer added.
