Stock of seized rice suspected to have been diverted from PDS system in Jalna
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar : The district administration seized 20 quintals of rice worth around Rs 80,000 from a shed in Jalna city on Sunday night, suspecting that the stock had been diverted from the public distribution system for black marketing. Officials found 45 sacks of rice inside the shed behind Lake View Hotel, near Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar-Ambad Chowfuli, around 9pm. The seizure followed a tip-off about suspected illegal stocking. An FIR was registered at Kadim Jalna police station early Monday. The accused have not yet been identified.

District supply officer Shashikant Hadgal said a team of revenue and supply officials, police and home guards reached the spot around 9pm. “Police and revenue authorities are expected to investigate the source of the rice, its intended destination and the persons responsible for storing it,” authorities said. “The team made inquiries about the godown but did not receive any information from the people present there. Police have booked unidentified people under sections 3 and 7 of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955. Officials seized the stock on suspicion that PDS rice had been illegally diverted and stored for sale in the black market.
