Thane: Thane Mayor Sharmila Pimpalolkar on Friday announced a Diwali ex-gratia payment of ₹25,000 each for municipal corporation and transport undertaking employees, while ASHA workers will receive ₹6,000 each.
Their contribution has been recognised through a Diwali grant of ₹6,000 each,” Pimpalolkar said. The ex-gratia amount for civic employees has been increased from ₹24,500 last year to ₹25,000 this year and will impose an additional financial burden of approximately ₹20.1 crore on the civic body for the financial year 2026–27, officials said.
The decision was taken following a meeting with senior civic officials after discussions with Deputy chief minister and Thane Guardian Minister Eknath Shinde , Pimpalolkar said. “Civic employees work throughout the year to ensure the smooth functioning of essential municipal services. The ex-gratia payment is intended to add to their festive celebrations. ASHA workers also play a crucial role in public health awareness, maternal and child healthcare, vaccination drives and health surveys.
